Nusens undertook a challenging and vital project to ensure the safety of patrons and property at an 18-story condo complex. The project involved the supply and installation of a custom-fabricated safety netting system under the building's central skylights, a task made complex by the building's unique layout and height. The safety netting was critical for mitigating the risk of falling objects caused by repairs to the above skylights, which could have reached dangerous velocities and caused significant damage or injury.

At the heart of an 18-story condo complex stood a unique challenge: a towering central atrium, open from the ground floor to the skylights. With work needed to be done on the skylights and roof overhead, any falling debris or personnel from such a height could cause serious damage or death, respectively. Tasked with finding a solution, the Nusens team designed and installed a custom safety netting system to safeguard the building’s residents, visitors, and roofers.
The safety netting, spanning 45 feet wide by 175 feet long, had to fit the building’s unique layout. Wire ropes were anchored to existing beams and walls using turnbuckles, while snap hooks ensured the netting was securely suspended above the top floor’s main beams. Near the skylights, where only 2 inches of space existed between the wall edge and frame, the team anchored the netting at a 45-degree angle using bushings in the concrete to ensure a secure fit and eliminate risks.
Working 18 stories up with an additional 20 feet to the skylights required precision and strict safety protocols. Using M.E.W.P. equipment, the team safely navigated the challenges of height and reach. The central atrium’s open layout, which amplified the risk of falling debris, was effectively secured with the netting, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.
Despite these challenges, Nusens delivered a durable, innovative solution that exceeded safety standards. The project stands as a testament to the team’s ability to adapt to complex environments and turn obstacles into opportunities for excellence.
